So Many Reasons to Love this Place…

  • Discovering the reason the chairs in the living space are on a swivel- so I can follow the morning sun with a cup of tea and a book in my lap

  • Yoga on the deck

  • Watching my pup enjoy a sunbath snooze on the deck

  • Graduating from the bunk beds downstairs to the upstairs bedrooms

  • Walking down to the general store to grab a sandwich for lunch

  • Meditation on the banks of the creek

  • Trying to catch crawfish in the summer

  • Golden hour hitting the neon moss on the oaks

  • Hiring the Guerneville taco truck to park in the driveway and serve all our loved ones tacos

  • Picking apples in the fall

  • Afternoons in Gville at thrift shops and Boon restaurant

  • Taking the long way along the coast and stopping for fish ‘n’ chips

  • Quiet mornings at the Cafe Aquatica in Jenner

  • Playing board games around the dining room table or the in the living space with room for everyone

  • Blasting Christmas carols on the best sound system I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing, dancing around with the fam

  • Hiking up to the top of the hill with everyone, stopping to play with the newborn lambs at the neighbors’

  • Making ornaments for the tree from the moss and twigs we’d gathered around the property

  • Day trips to Goat Rock

  • Hot summer afternoon soaks in the creek

  • Stargazing with the telescope on clear nights

  • Lizards darting from rock to rock

  • Blasting music into the garden while pulling weeds and landscaping

  • Plugging in the electric guitar and cranking the volume to 11 to play a gig for the birds and the trees

  • Late night games of pool and ping pong with the Giants or the Warriors on TV in the background-BBQing for hours on the stone patio or cooking incredible meals with the fam. Roasted chicken on Sundays was a tradition

  • Hand-rusted, custom, handmade sliding barn doors… Ray watered the doors everyday until they were the perfect patina. He then immediately sealed them to keep them locked in and constructed

  • Seasons here are so different… wet and frigid winters bring the greenest foliage, moss goes crazy, making a fire in the stove is always a cozy and rustic alternative to the radiant heat. Summer heat brings daily trips to the creek, BBQs every weekend, day trips to the coast.

  • All the ‘natural’ rock retaining walls were winched up from the creek by a previous owner-Bulletproof window from Vietnam era helicopter repurposed into a table, made by previous owner

  • Foxes! When the property is vacant for extended periods of time, we have had a family of foxes use a spot somewhere on the property as their den. We love sharing space with them, they help with mouse and lizard population control. One lazy morning while living here alone, I spotted a pair of the canids sleeping/ sunbathing on the outdoor furniture ON THE DECK! One year they had three pups we got to watch play and grow up, the adult male barked at me from just about 10 feet away while I was taking out the trash one time. He sounded like a little pomeranian or something!

  • 1975 Sonoma State University Geology study done on the unique rock formations found in the local riparian watershed

  • Kitchen island frankenstein’d together by hand. Mom found antique outdoor chess pawn pieces which were fashioned into legs and then the top was finished with a slab of butcher block and a slab of soapstone

  • Good old fashioned air siren still goes off at noon.

Neighborhood

177 Mohrhardt Ridge Rd is located in the community of Cazadero. Perched in a valley in the hills above the Russian River watershed, nestled along the flowing waters of Austin Creek, and shaded by towering redwoods, this tiny town (pop. 354) offers both small-town and outdoor delights in Sonoma County.

Step back in time on the beautifully worn wooden floors of the 100-year-old Cazadero General Store, which stocks an array of everyday and luxury items. Join the many pilgrims who travel to Caz — as it’s known by the locals — to taste the focaccia, artisan breads, cakes, scones, and other baked delights at the renowned Raymond’s Bakery & Bed and Breakfast.

Recall Cazadero’s past as a vibrant lumber town by watching redwoods being processed through Berry’s Saw Mill, a family-owned operation that cuts sustainably-managed timber.

Play tennis or basketball on the courts in downtown Caz, directly across from the local fire department. Bring your bicycle and explore the many peaceful but challenging roads that lead off the main streets. Almost all the major bicycle tours that come through Sonoma County head through Cazadero, including Levi’s Grand Fondo and the Tour of California.

Cazadero has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers.
